A friend is your earliest experience of stepping out of your family—the leafy school yard, a conversation, a joke, feeling understood.

After the initial connection, a series of calls and responses—you think of them and they of you and that is somehow known by each.

With time, some of these reverberations dull, muffled by change and distance.

Others deepen, that’s the mystery and neither person can explain exactly why.
