On the calm of a fall Sunday, the nerves of the past week and the coming week seem disproportionate.
But they were and will always be there. Exams were nerves, as were getting married and having kids, work, distant travel, the passing of friends and parents, money, competitive sports.
My father’s generation didn’t speak of nerves, but for sure they felt them—World Wars, Depressions, civil strife. That jitter is part of what makes us human.
I’m trying to learn that expecting I will feel nerves helps—I can say to myself “oh there you are my old friend, back for a visit, welcome.”
The Uncomfortable Truth about Money comes out Tuesday, which is in part a story about exactly the above.
Thanks for this reminder!
