I always enjoy your writings and insight. Your article reminds me of Steve Jobs commencement address where he said death was likely the best invention of life. It clears out the old to make way for the new. You point out that it’s true for companies just as much as for our progeny. Good to remember when investing.

I appreciate most of Paul's points, the only one is the debate about whether trees will grow to the sky, you don't think so, and I think it depends on the situation, especially when you don't see a real threat back then. It's like saying that people are bound to die, so people shouldn't be born.

Hi Paul you say you are avoiding cap weighted indices because of concentration risk. Are you using equal or risk weighted indices that are easily accessible? Where do I find these? What if I use cap weighted index exposure to facilitate leverage in my portfolio? I guess it becomes a question of how much you value leverage and diversification within equities vs across asset classes.
